Walkerplus.com operates a one-stop local portal site featuring information on urban events and entertainment around Japan. From Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south, it offers information services on the eight regions covered by the Walker magazines, as well as Kyoto and Saitama prefecture. The site offers a plethora of information on topics ranging from gourmet food, movies and weddings to hair salons and rented accommodation. It also carries articles on topical subjects and provides advice about selecting gifts. Walkerplus.com demonstrates the power of a local portal site: users can view anything from Walker magazine content to daily event information, in real time and interactively. With its operations now on track, Walkerplus.com is becoming increasingly profitable. And the company is attracting the interest of overseas investors with respect to its second-phase expansion in the U.S. Walkerplus.com is also expanding the scope of its operations, building a broad client base that includes restaurants, wedding halls, hair salons, hotels and community groups. KADOKAWA INTERACTIVE MEDIA
Established to digitalize and database information collected by the company itself, as well as information content owned by the Kadokawa Group, Kadokawa Interactive Media’s core business is the distribution of TV program listings using Weekly The Television, Monthly The Television, the Walker series and other group information magazines. These magazines have tremendous reach, with an aggregate monthly circulation of 18 million copies. Activities also extend to include distribution of movie information. With web-based TV listings and EPGs (Electronic Program Guides) tipped to be the TV portals of the future, Kadokawa Interactive Media launched Web The Television in December 2000 to offer TV program listings for all areas in Japan—listings for the Tokyo metropolitan area are updated daily. Kadokawa Interactive Media also distributes TV listings to ISPs, and creates and provides listings to local TV stations for use on their websites.
