Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. entered into the business of issuing Area Marketing Support Type Free Magazine, which is new field for the company, and is developing the business to build up its firm base. This free magazine is distributed to the readers and uses for free and supplies the information to support the life activities in the specific area. The source of income is mainly the shops, facilities, service providers, etc., which are doing business in the area and pay the sales promotion expenses for the purpose of increasing their visiting customers, and in return the publisher places the articles of such clients on the magazine. The annually issued Tokyo Index (stock type) was newly published in September 2003. It started with two editions; Shinjuku/Nakano edition and Shibuya/Minato edition. Both of the editions were distributed to 250 thousand households respectively and the revenue from those two areas amounted to approx. ¥180 million. Then in March 2004, four more editions were issued, consisting of Setagaya/Meguro edition and Suginami/Musashino edition in Tokyo and Yokohama Index and Saitama Index all together. The preparation is being made to add 12 to 15 more areas within this year. The annually updated information closely related to the daily life in each area together with detailed data is reputed to be very handy. On the other hand, the monthly issued Kadonavi (flow type) was newly published in November 2003 in Nagoya and Fukuoka areas and these issues are marketed in conjunction with Tokai Walker and Kyushu Walker respectively.
The market of sales promotion and marketing media, which Kadokawa Shoten is developing by the publication of free magazines, is expected to further expand its scale in the time to come. The free magazine will supplement the conventional information distribution business by means of magazines, Internet, cellular phone, etc., and will serve for the convenience of the customers and satisfy their needs for information. Therefore, the group intends to rapidly establish a steady position in this market. |
